Cars and Communities: An Event Sponsored by Transit for Livable Communities and The Metropolitan Design Center Join Transit for Livable Communities and The Metropolitan Design Center for "Cars and Communities," a workshop that examines the history of traffic in towns, illustrated by examples of some remarkable new approaches to safety and traffic management. The workshop will feature Ben Hamilton-Baillie, a specialist in urban design and traffic engineering, and director of Hamilton-Baillie Associates. "Cars and Communities" Featuring Ben Hamilton-Baillie Tuesday, March 20, 2007 6:00-8:00 p.m. Coffman Memorial Union, Campus Club, Conference Room ABC 301 19th Avenue S., Minneapolis, MN 55455 Parking available at the 19th Avenue Ramp and the 21st Avenue Ramp The workshop will feature ideas about gateways and transition zones, speed management and safety, and the relationship between urban design, engineering and behavioral psychology. Ben Hamilton-Baillie will draw on recent examples from several European countries to suggest ways in which traffic engineering and urban design might combine to enhance the prosperity, vitality and safety of the public realm.
