Good Times, Great Oldies

After the sad passing of my Mother, the very next day I had the great joy of seeing my friend and mentor, Loren Morlock, for the first time since his terrible bike accident in Boulder on April 21. He looked amazing and it was such a 180° of emotion. Thank you Loren & Jennifer for dropping by the house.Got a few good rides in while I was back in ND, including out in Medora with my brother Paul, and brother-in-law Roger. It was 106° this day and we rode the 38 mile loop on the road through Theodore Roosevelt National Park.My nephew Breck pulled this old Schwinn pixie sting-ray from a neighbor's trash pile (atta-boy!) and I helped him rebuild the chunky coaster brake. He said he just wants to have it around to look at. I told him to just "run what ya' brung..."

Earlier this year, the House rebuffed a modest effort to increase fuel economy standards while approving a bill whose main purpose is to end a long-standing federal moratorium on drilling for oil and gas on the Outer Continental Shelf. In similar spirit, the Senate today will take up a bill to open eight million more acres of the Gulf of Mexico to oil and gas drilling.The Senate measure is narrower and less mischievous than the House bill. Yet it, too, is aimed exclusively at increasing production.This is mind-boggling. The bill’s stated purpose is to reduce fuel prices. But while the gulf may hold enough natural gas to affect the price of that commodity, the same cannot be said of oil. I want to thank all of my friends, colleagues, and customers for all the kindness, encouragement and support in the last month and the last year, for that matter. It has been a long, tumultuous, often sad year. My Mother passed away Monday, July 10.But Mom loved adventure, and I do too. So come down to CRC and watch the tour. Another Alps stage tomorrow. Rest in Peace, Mom.Mary Pat Baenen EversonJune 30, 1938 - July 10, 2006Mary Pat (M.P.) Everson passed away at her home on Monday, July 10, 2006, surrounded by her family. Mary Pat Baenen was born June 30, 1938, in Jamestown, ND to Agnes and Leonard Baenen. After high school at St. John’s Academy, she attended the Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Grand Forks, and did graduate work in nursing at St. Louis University in St. Louis, MO. On July 8, 1961 Mary Pat married Lawrence K. Everson in Jamestown, eventually settling in Bismarck in 1964. She worked as a Registered Nurse at St. Alexius Medical Center for a total of 40 years, where she is remembered not only for her excellent nursing skills but also her caring and compassion. She touched the lives of countless patients and co-workers.Mary Pat is survived by her daughters, Mary (Merle) Heintz, Susan (Roger) Everson-Rose, sons Paul Everson, Thomas (Kelly Mac) Everson, and Richard (Ola) Everson.
