tragedy

I've just learned that Eric Lappegard passed away, due to complications from an automobile accident. This hits terribly hard. My thoughts are with his family and friends. There seems to have been an awful amount of calamities this year in the local bike scene, this being the worst, and the amount of sorrow is staggering. I just spoke to him recently; he was super excited for his move to Portland. You will be missed Eric!

Do you want more?

Ragbrai vs. Bear & Maia

Posted July 17, 2007 @ 6:06am

Thank you to everyone who commented on the previous post about our Mothers. All I can say is right on. MP-R.I.P. Moving forward, right around the bend we have the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa. That's RAGBRAI for yinz who don't like to read. It's bound to be another week of ridin', drinkin', swervin', and stinkin'. Now then, on the last day, in Belleview, Evil Pixie + The Bear are tying the knot. So if you see those fuckers on the road, be sure and doff the chapeau in their general direction. Due to the onus of being a small business owner, I won't be joining the Iowaelaton until later in the week. But that should give me time to work out the bugs on my new...

Mary Pat, and Mothers everywhere

Posted July 10, 2007 @ 6:06am

One year ago today my brothers, sisters, and I lost our lovely Mother, Mary Pat, to cancer. It doesn't feel like one year has passed, and I still think about her every day, reflexively picking up the phone to call her, or wanting to send an email. I can no longer do those things, but she is with me in my heart wherever I go. She was always the first to offer encouragement in any endeavor I chose to do, and always told me how lucky I was that my "hobby" was also my livelihood. She was my greatest supporter, a great friend, and never afraid to hoist a few Guinness. I love you, and miss you so much, Mom. So the point of all this, dear reader, is why don't you stop what you're doing right now, and call your Mom. Tell her how much she means to you, tell her that you're thinking about her, and that you're going to take her out to lunch next week, next month, or as soon as you get the chance. Take her to a movie, send her flowers, send her pictures of the grandkids. Whatever it is that you...
