Punching the Clock

Lately I've been getting up around 6 am to ride. Most mornings it's to meet up with Bootsy Collins, hammer out a few miles and then hit up some Bread & Pickle espresso at Lake Harriet on the return. In July it was largely due to the heatwave; 85° and an equal level of humidity by 8:00 am makes for some oppressive pedal strokes. Now, it's more or less second nature. It's a good feeling being out rolling before the crowds take over the Greenway, or the River Road trails. Mostly, it just feels good to finish a ride and still have the whole day ahead to recover. Sure, most days involve going to work post-ride, but there's definitely an overwhelming serenity having knocked out 40+ miles thru Lilydale, or West Bush Lake before punching the clock. Speaking of, we generally meet behind Punch Pizza on the Greenway around 6:15. So if you're feeling the sunrise call your name, come out and join us. Chances are we'll be punching in.
