New Products/GP Bike Swap

Posted February 28, 2004 @ 6:06am

yikes, what a weekend. The annual QBP open house, or "Frostbike" as they're calling it now, has come and gone. The highlight of the weekend definitely Friday night's art opening for Jim Zellinger's "Air-Ride Equipped" installation at One On One Bicycle Studio. Lots of people showed up, and plenty of Shithouse Awards were handed out. Next up on the agenda, is the St. Paul Bicycle Racing Club & Grand Performance Bike Swap, this Sunday the 29th at the St. Paul Academy School Gym. Look for the Mpls. Mafia table, and check out the PINK CRC shirts, back by popular demand, as well as the BICYCLE PUNKROCK ACTION shirt. This, and much, much more. Now back to you in the studio, Tom...Hello! Tom here, down in the studio . Like to thank you for use of the Kona Unit on the thursdaymorningride. It preformed just wonderful. I think everybody got a taste of it, I know I did! Bruises on 3 of the 4 points. That bike does damm good for just having 1.8 tires. Punk.

Soft-on-Soft Studio

Posted February 19, 2004 @ 6:06am

the proprietor of a certain local "bicycle studio" has been talkin' loud, but not sayin' nothin'. Didn't show up for the Thursday Morning Ride where he could have drank a 40 in honor of the temps hitting 40 yesterday, or ripped through Kenwood and Cedar Lake alleys en route to see Sovern play the banjo at Lee's Liquor Lounge, and maybe, just maybe, tested the new Surly firestarter kit. If pressed, he'll claim he was riding a "funkinator bike" or tell you he's busy getting ready for Friday night's art opening for our man Jim Zellinger. Chrisdemeanor was there. Power Wagon, Brauer Power, too. Grayboy, Wrexican, Ben, Mark of the Beast, Duke, Flameburger, New-guy Noah, and I'm probably forgetting others, but no sign of Eugene Paul Oberpriller...., but here are a few more words from him."I gots some more excuses". I had to clean up after a few of yous came by and left your cans and broken, trashed bicycle parts about the place. Of course I was having a few cans myself and that did...

Ice Dams, Dammit Bobby

Posted February 18, 2004 @ 6:06am

In a year when we've received more snow than the last four combined, and nearly every house in the region has "beautiful" icycles dangling from their rooftops caused by these damn ice dams, I thought I'd escape the watery mess of a roof leak. But last night, just before going to bed I noticed bubbling paint and soft spots on our interior wall. Just great. We finished painting that fucking room only two weeks ago, as well. This morning I strapped on my TSG dirt jumper helmet, grabbed a 12 ft. copper pipe from the garage, and started knocking down icy stalagtites. Maybe a case of too little too late, but the temps are threatening to reach 40° (yes, above) today, so hopefully Ma Nature will lend a helping hand. Not looking forward to patching that wall, though...And in local nooze, Friday night, another arthouse bacchanal ensues at the One On One Bicycle Studio , as Jim Zelliger's "Air-Ride Equipped" show opens. Be sure to check out these boss paintings, and enjoy some cold beer....

Thursday Morning Ride: The New Luce vs. the Blue Coats

Posted February 12, 2004 @ 6:06am

As many of you know, we have this weekly thing called the "Wednesday Night Ride." Innocent enough: show up at the Lake Harriet Bandshell (or more accurately, the picnic tables just north of, but in case of two feet of snow, just mingle on the adjacent bike path) between 9:30 - 10:00 pm with your bike. Bring some refreshments, and dress appropriately. Don't forget the all-important VAPOR BARRIER! Last night a six-pack of soul riders showed up for the bacchanal. 5 of 6 were wearing blue jackets, like some sort of bad outtake from Queer Eye for the Bike Guy. Like some single speed Johnny Cash, the Wrexican was the lone dissenter, wearing standard issue black. All Metal, all the time! We rolled away from Harriet, planning to ride sidewalks all the way across town to the Seward neighborhood to check the latest Pizza Luce, recently opened at 22nd & Franklin. But when the ride is being led by Gnarly Factory Pro, and includes Tower of Brauer, the Bryn Mawr Borracho, Chrisdemeanor, and...
