Fruita Fat Tire Fest

Posted March 29, 2004 @ 6:06am

Ok all you cowboys... it's exactly one month until the 9th Annual Fruita Fat Tire Fest. I recommend you start planning accordingly. The usual gang of idiots should be on hand, and as usual, New Belgium Brewery will be providing a fair share of the inebriants...New for '04 is live bands on both Friday and Saturday nights. The trails are already in primo shape, according to reports from one of the Retarded Dingoes, and the new Fruita Guidebook will be available soon. All of this is just a precursor to next years 10th Anniversary Festival, when it is rumoured, though not confirmed, that Hank III will be playin' some fine honky skronk on yer' head. But currently, back in Minneapplepuss, it's a frosty 41 degrees, and I reckon it's about to rain. Again. So it's off to Kenwood Cyclery in search of a beater road fork for yet another fixie project, then on to the post office. So until next time, as we're fond of saying in the 612: Burn in hell...

10 a.m. Fixie Ride

Posted March 27, 2004 @ 6:06am

Tomorrow, (Sunday 28-March) there'll be another fixed gear ride. We're meeting at Bob's Java Hut at 10 a.m. sharp, and will leave no later than 10:15. RAIN OR SHINE. Come out and pretend you're a Belgian hard man. Fixies aren't manadatory, but you'll feel better if you're on one. Less carnage to your drive train, better control, blah, blah, blah. It's raining pretty solid as I write, so be prepared for anything. The ride will head west out the Cedar Lake bike highway and on to the LRT trails, if they're not too soupy. Expect about 3 hours of fun.-CRC

St. Patrick's Day retrospective

Posted March 17, 2004 @ 6:06am

From my Southeast Asia journal, one year ago in Cambodia:17-March-2003Out the door early, but very tired. Again the Cambodian monster speakers greet us loud & proud. Crazy street scene with the sun coming up. Road is super smooth the first 10K, but then rapidly deteriorates into bumpy, crazy dirt. Many bridges are detoured, and there is much road construction. Rest up in Run (D.M.C.) 32k out, then on to Kampong Kdei. A roadside stop for drinks turns into another invitation in to a Khmer home. The proprietor of the stop has coconut water and sugar cane for us. We take pictures, including one of the huge pig buried in mud. The Khmer people again flooring us with genuine hospitality, and eager, warm smiles. Happily, we soon arrive to Kampong Kdei, find a sleepy guesthouse for $3, skip the showers and head right across the street for a heaping plate of rice and vegetables, and two cans of Fanta. Our room is small but we manage to squeeze the bikes inside. To our dismay, even though...

St. Ides & SLICK 50

Posted March 15, 2004 @ 6:06am

Yeah, hope you're all enjoying the Ides of March today. I don't have any St. Ides, but there is some PBR in the fridge, left over from Saturdays SLICK 50 ride. It was short notice, and the weather was questionable, but The Wrexican, Zito, The Donut Queen and I took off from Bob's Java Hut around 12:15, met up w/Tatara-tara on the bike highway. We rode a fair bit on the regional trail that leads out to Minnetonka. It was like riding thru peanut butter due to the morning rain and we slogged it out to Excelsior. Stopped for coffee and sugar at Dunn Bros. Coffee, headed out and heard a loud POP! as Zito's sidewall blew out on his rear tire. To top it off, he was running aero rims w/long-stem valves. We managed a MacGyver fix, and rolled back to town along Minnetonka Boulevard. Beers were dowwwned at Tatara-tara's secret SLP hideaway. A great, greasy day of riding with good friends. Next time I swear I'll be more organized and get the word out more than one day in advance...

Sink the Pink vs. Rocket from the Crypt

Posted March 11, 2004 @ 6:06am

People of Earth:After yesterday's balmy 45° above -including RAIN and SNOW showers, we awoke to 6° this morning. I've had it. Spoke to a cat from Colorado Springs yesterday, and he mentioned getting sunburned on a ride earlier this week! WTF! Ain't no sunburns goin' on in this neck of the woods, but if you're interested in getting a little freezerburn, join the Wrexican and myself this Saturday for the SLICK 50 ride. 50k on fixed gears. Next week we'll be off to Kansas City for the Midwest Singletrack Summit, as well as the best bloody mary's in the world at the Newsroom. McGruff is rumoured to be making an appearance, so look for a Retarded Dingoes Reunion. The new CRC hoodies are back in stock. Black w/blue ink, and they look bitchen!. Get on the horn to be the first on your block. Also, water bottles are back in, as are pink tshirts in all sizes, including smalls for the ladies. But those things are moving quick, so act fast if you want one. In fact, they're so damn...
