Update on Loren Morlock-4-29

Posted April 30, 2006 @ 6:06am

Dear Family and Friends of Loren,Today was another quiet day for Loren. His attendant switched him from one type of pain killer to another; he slept through the immediate hours after the change until his ideal dosage levels were determined. His prescription was altered to reduce the narcotic effects of the drugs he receives. Virtually needless to say, the meds he's on are extremely powerful. His withdrawal from their grasp will be something many of us will need to assist Loren with in later days. More than ever it's apparent to me that that's what friends and family are for. There is good news. Loren is much more cognitive when his sedative is weaned and he's alert. He recognized Jennifer and Nancy last night, and he was able to answer simple questions by a nod or shake of his head. Nancy witnessed him raise an eyebrow in exclamation to a remark she made. On one occasion, Loren shifted his gaze from Nancy to Jennifer as Jenn began to speak to him from a different...

Update on Loren Morlock-4-28

Dear Family and Friends of Loren,Today is Friday, thus one week has elapsed since Loren entered the hospital. The passing of time this last seven days seems a bit unreal, though it's anything but that. I can only imagine how hard it is for all of you who wish you could be here with Loren, Jenn, Tom, Nancy, and James, but cannot. Please understand that the sympathy and support from those of you in contact with Jennifer means everything to her and the kids. I've forwarded all but a handful of personal emails I've received on to Jenn and Nancy to read to Loren and the rest of their family. Many of you have written me saying that you were gathering photos or composing something for Loren. Hold tight a little longer until we have a web site for Loren. The template Nancy and I looked at was too impersonal for someone who has been called many things, but very rarely - if ever - impersonal. We're going to put something together that will better reflect Loren himself, and the roles...

Update on Loren Morlock-4-27

Dear Family and Friends of Loren,Once again there's not much new to report on Loren's condition. His medical staff has decided to keep him on his ventilator a while longer. He was breathing on his own for most of the day, but still they are erring on the side of caution with their choices. Sadly, this means that his sedation has to remain at level that allows him to cope with the discomfort the ventilator causes him. I can see the fire in his eyes through the haze of his medicine and sense his desire to wake up - still he needs to stay in a holding pattern for another day or two until his lungs have cleared up a bit more. He's also running a fever of 100 to 101 degrees, and his cranial pressure hasn't dropped to normal healthy levels. His readings are common for someone in his place, but of little comfort when one wants nothing more than to see him back on his feet. It's hard to witness the high-energy guy Loren is in such a heavily sedated state. I think that we all need...

How Ya' Like Me Now?

Check out this sweet silver-soldered Osell tourer, from 1989. I went to Woodbury to buy some hubs and the guy also had this in his garage. I couldn't pass it up. Will be riding it from Minneapolis to Bismarck, ND at the end of June for my 20th High School reunion. The replacement frame for my Unit 2-9 showed up on Monday. Hope to see some dirt tonight!

Update on Loren Morlock-4-26

Dear Family and Friends of Loren, Jenn, James, Nancy, and Tom:Five days have passed since Loren was admitted into the hospital. He's come a long way, though none of you would believe it if you were witnessing him for the first time. He's very lucky to to be alive, let alone to be distancing himself from harms reach. He's putting up one hell of a fight, no surprise to the majority of you.Loren has been progressing very well in virtually every measure. His temperatures and cranial pressures have fluctuated each and every day, but just when one or the other has reached a level of concern, it drops back down to normal readings. Not once has either reflected an immediate threat to his short or long term health. So far, so good by virtually every barometer.Yesterday Loren breathed on his own on two separate occasions: once for about a half hour, and again later for over two hours. Since exiting surgery he has had a machine breathing for him through a tube that runs from...

To Serve & Protect...

DUI, obstruction charged in Minneapolis police officers' arrestTwo Minneapolis cops face disciplinary action after an early morning crash in Columbia Heights.Chao Xiong, Star TribuneTwo Minneapolis police officers, who are engaged to each other, were arrested in Columbia Heights early Tuesday after one allegedly drove drunk into the back of a parked truck and the other was twice stunned with a Taser for resisting police.Officer Lindsay E. Anderson, 29, drove a car into a parked truck which then crashed into a car in the 4000 block of Washington Street about 1 a.m., according to a Columbia Heights police report. Later, as she sat in a Columbia Heights squad car, she tried to persuade an officer to release her "as she was a police officer that went through the same training as I did," the report said. When the officer refused, she swore at the officer, displayed her middle finger and said she would "never give any Heights officers a break and that she would be looking for...
